Hi guys welcome to today's post hope all is well.
Zanele and I had a talk about Food Friday's and it's a GO!
Let me just say every Friday you need to expect a food post
feature on the blog and you will love it, as it will remain affordable but
with that Soweto twist that we all LOVE.
It is winter now and expect for me to share some warm and hearty food.
To start I made a classic pea soup.
The ingredients can be found at your local food store,
you don't have to search far and wide for.
INGREDIENTS
-split peas
-frozen garden peas
-potatoes
-onion
-garlic and ginger
-cooking cream (optional)
-cumin
-cayenne pepper
-mixed herbs
-salt and pepper
-beef stock
-cooking oil
method:
-frozen garden peas

-beef stock
-cooking oil
method:
Split peas take a lot of time cook (don't look at the instructions that are in the pack,
unless you want to eat grainy peas), you have to boil them first for hours (2 to 3 to be exact).
till they are soft and tender (mushy/soupy).
Heat the cooking oil in a pan and gently saute your onion until soft.
Mix in your spices, garlic and potatoes fry them until potatoes are half done
pour in your split peas in the saute pan (vs either way).
The beef stock can now be added to the soup, to prepare the beef stock
(pour hot water in a mug to dissolve the cube)
Let the soup boil until your potatoes are soft, then you can add
in your frozen garden peas to the boiling soup (I like adding the garden peas because they bring in the
greenness that is sometimes lost during the cooking), simmer the soup then puree
using your hand blender until smooth.
And wallah you have your pea soup
Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
See you soon.
