Announcement | It's not about where you live, its about how you live

Soweto, South Africa

I've been having this thought for a while in my head
and that it is just time to take a dive and make the blog have it's
own page name and everything like that.

@zanelemondi has been great but I feel like @aroundsowetoblog
will make more sense.
I have been doing this blogging thing for a while now
and I know that if I want to take things to the next step I will need to share
a part of my life in this beautiful world called social media
and after going back and forth I decided that I will not be doing that but take
the next best step and make In Out & Around Soweto grow into something more.

As @zanelemondi I feel like the blog is okay but as In Out & Around Soweto the she is ready
to blossom and take on her own life.
I love everything about the township life (positive things only though)
 (Soweto, Thokoza, Gugulethu, Umlazi, etc)
but I often feel like the images portrayed in our news are often times unfair and don't
cover even 10% of what the township life is about, don't even get me started with some of the
briefs I would sometimes get from brands #hahaha

The process will be gradual but I do believe that when you see it
you will get it.

See at work.

i'Shisanyama and Chakalaka with Simba in Soweto

Soweto, South Africa

As part of the nationwide campaign, “What’s your Mmmzansi Flavour”, Simba®
has launched two more locally inspired flavours: Chakalaka and Shisanyama.

The campaign saw Simba®, with Anele Mdoda, one of SA’s most loved radio personalities,
calling for people far and wide to share their own Mmmzansi flavour,
reflecting all that our nation loves to eat.
South Africans jumped at the opportunity,
suggesting a variety of delectable homegrown flavours in celebration of both Simba®
and our nation’s rich, local heritage.

The two new flavours, Chakalaka and Shisanyama,
follow hot on the heels of the recently launched Chilli Biltong flavour
and were chosen because they are what South Africans most love to eat.
The combinations of meat and spice repeatedly came up as favourites,
and the pairings were created using dishes that have been on local menus for generations.

“Chakalaka and Shisanyama are such iconic South African foods,
enjoyed by millions in their homes each day.
Our intention is to capture these classic favourites into a bag of Simba® chips and
take people on a locally inspired flavour journey,” says Agnes Kitololo, Marketing Director at PepsiCo.

So, go instore and grab your packet of Simba®’s new Mmmzansi flavoured Chakalaka and Shisanyama chips.

More information on Simba Mmmzansi Flavours you can follow this link.

Scottish Leader X I See A Different You Launch Limited Edition Soweto Heart Whisky

Soweto, South Africa

The vibrancy of Soweto meets pioneering Scottish whisky craftsmanship, in the latest collaboration between I See A Different You and Scottish Leader.

Wednesday 30 October 2019 - Scottish Leader has launched a new limited edition, SA-exclusive whisky, Scottish Leader Soweto Heart, with I See A Different You (ISADY). The creation of this whisky marks a culmination of the brand’s two-year partnership with this creative collective, who have made it their mission to change negative misconceptions about Soweto, primarily through photography.

The two founding members of ISADY – Fhatuwani Mukheli and Vuyo Mpantsha– were very involved in the conception and making of Soweto Heart. Scottish Leader invited them to visit Scotland and meet with the Scottish Leader blending team, headed up by Dr Kirstie Maccullum, one of the few female Master Distillers in the world.

“Scotland was a mind-blowing experience,” says Mukheli.  “How the mixing of all the elements comes together to make a Scottish Leader whisky is incredible; it is in fact both an art and a science. The team at the distillery were nothing but edifying and welcoming. We told them about some of our favourite flavours back home and the wonderful memories they conjur, which they captured beautifully.”

Although Scottish Leader Soweto Heart was crafted in Scotland, it is definitely inspired by South Africa, with tasting notes of milk chocolate and toffee to satisfy the South African sweet tooth. The label and carton design also reflects the collaboration between Scotland and South Africa. The result is a fusion of the renowned Scottish tartan and a more contemporary South African pattern, beautifully brought to life with vibrant colours and textures.

“We at Scottish Leader are thrilled to share this new variant with South African whisky lovers. While we have had the pleasure of working with ISADY on previous projects, this is definitely the most exciting venture for all of us,” says Lynsay Sampson, Marketing Manager: Whisky and White Spirits at Distell. “ISADY have welcomed us into their world, and we wanted to extend the same courtesy by welcoming them to our home in Scotland.”

“ISADY embodies the Scottish Leader philosophy that magic can be found simply by taking a different view on the world around you.  They have been instrumental in dispelling long-held negative perceptions about Soweto, and showing instead the pride of Sowetans, their sense of style, their love of art, and the vibrance and energy of the township. Like ISADY, Scottish Leader pushes the boundaries,” continues Sampson.

ISADY has been committed to their vision of reframing the stories of Soweto since 2011, when they launched a photographic blog showcasing images that captured their neighbourhood’s uniqueness and contradictions. ISADY’s work has now evolved into the creation of an agency that specialises in photography and film.

To celebrate the launch of Soweto Heart and showcase its namesake’s origin and heritage with pride, ISADY will be visiting and documenting a few of Soweto’s diverse neighbourhoods over the next few weeks. These will include Pimville, the real home of ISADY; Dube, made famous by Moroko Swallows; and Mfulo, best known for having the first movie house in Soweto – Eyethu Bioskop.

“Soweto Heart is a metaphor for having the capacity to see the world differently. It’s more about an attitude than an area code. It’s the story of contemporary, forward-thinkers who take the time to look a little deeper. This is what both ISADY and the Scottish Leader brand are all about,” concludes Sampson.

The limited edition Scottish Leader Soweto Heart is available nationwide while stocks last. RSP: R279.00
