A week ago my sister and I plus a couple of friends attended
the launch of Miss Vilakazi Street 2016 and it being the first official event
as a blogger from around Soweto I must say *honoured*.
Vilakazi Street in Orlando West (Soweto) is a place of great
heritage in South Africa, as it is where Hector Pieterson was shot in 1976
during the Soweto uprising as a result of resistance to the laws of apartheid.
It is also the only road in the world to birth two Nobel Peace prize winners
such as Desmond Tutu and the late father of our nation Nelson Mandela. Due to
the rich history of the Vilakazi Street, it is now a very popular tourist
attraction heritage destination.
Miss Vilakazi Street is the brain child of Former Miss
Soweto Lungile Buhale, The pageant launched this year aims to groom and
cultivate young women. The core and central aspects of the pageant are to
harness five important female traits which include; Education, Wellbeing, Health,
Beauty and Community humanity.
The pageant will be held on the 12th November 2016.
